US Senate Passes Pork-Laiden "Bailout" Bill Authorizing treasury to Spend $700 Billion - Moves to House
Despite the fact that Article One of the US Constitution only allows the House to originate spending bills (and this kind of spending is clearly not sanctioned in the first place!), the Senate (with Judd Gregg pushing it heartily) attached their version of the "TARP" bailout bill to an already existing resolution. Sneaky, huh... It passed, and will now go back to the House.
Remember, Judd Gregg is the NH Senator who claimed that "people's savings are at stake, their retirements!" even as he chastised others for employing "hyperbole" in their public appearances. Anyone ever ask him what happens to people's savings and retirements when the government inflates its currency, issuing liquidity, easy lending, and velocity into the money supply? Um, yeah, their savings buy them less and less. One wonders if Judd Gregg has ever read even a basic textbook on economics.
Farcical? You be the judge!

Here is the report of the roll call in the Senate. Nice to see Brownback voting "No". Many thought he might be pulled in by the Neocons. Bernie Sanders, the socialist, also, shockingly, voted "No".
