New to the forum, that is. I've been listening to the podcast since long before it was only a podcast.

A few of you may know me from the Free Talk Live BBS (I'm also Dan from Pennsylvania when I call in to FTL).

I like your graphic.  I assume that you are a Christian anarchist.  I would love for you to expound on what that means.  I myself am a Christian anarchist, but I belong to a orthodox sect of the faith, and run into a lot of resistance from people at church, to the idea of a stateless society.

Actually I call myself an "anarchist Christian" to distinguish myself from Tolstoyans, but maybe that's nitpicking.

For me it is simply a matter of having no king but Christ. A Christian is, by definition, a follower of Christ, and Christ was clearly a radical anti-authoritiarian and a liberator. I realize that there are verses in the Bible that can be interpreted to endorse the state, but if read in the understanding of Jesus' own words and in the light of his own examples (which, in my belief, is the only way a Christian can possibly read the rest of the Bible), they cannot be so construed.

I'll gladly get into specifics if you (or anyone else, for that matter) wish, but for now I'll just say that in general, I am convicted that the state is a false god, and that Christians ought to oppose it as they would any other.

When it comes to other Christians whom I know personally who believe in the state, I generally stay away from political topics, sometimes just dropping a reference here and there to Christ's peaceful nature and the ideas of freedom of conscience and voluntaryism being compatible with the Christian faith. I have had much more success with young people (I myself am 24) than the older folks. I don't think any of my peers would call themselves "anarchists" (except a few of my closest friends), but none of them are fans of the government at all.

In the not-so-far future, I plan to publish a book that will bear a full treatise on the idea of political liberty from a Christian perspective, beginning with the idea that Christ was a liberator and not an authoritarian, and that we as Christians must emulate him. I plan to conclude with the argument that the state is a false god and the common enemy of all Christians. When that happens, then I suppose I won't be able to put off discussing it with the fellow members of my church any longer. But until then, I am not too worried about it so I don't bring it up much. Nobody in my church is a state-worshipper per se - they don't like the religious right; they don't support state welfare; they don't support the police state. Nothing they believe is terribly offensive to me, so I generally withold my opinion.

DAN!

HEY! Thanks a lot for joining us here! You're always making great points on FTL, and I'm glad you're part of the "Conspiracy" here, man!

I agree with you about how Christ dismissed government authority. Anarchy seems to me to be the only approach consistent with Christian values. Don't know why people don't come to that conclusion more often!

Glad to see some more liberty lovers in the area. Currently I'm between New Castle and Slippery Rock.

Same Here.

Go Stillers!

I need to go to the store and put some chipped ham and city chicken in my buggy.  I might also need to buy some gumbands and hoagies.   I should also probably redd-up my house before all of the neb-nose jaggoffs come over for the sixburgh celebration!
