Ron Paul might of done well in Iowa but in my mind there's still a question of whether he's a homphobe

I really dislike Iowa.  I've had some very bad interactions with locals there.  I'm glad that Ron Paul did well in the poll, but I really have a disdain for some of the people in and around the quad cities.  This is a little off topic, but I beg your indulgence.

I was traveling by bus from White River Junction, Vermont to Salt Lake City, Utah.  This was in February of 2000, so it was a good long while after the black man was freed from chattel slavery.

I had been sitting next to a natty dread since we left Chicago.  He told me that he was due to get off in Iowa City (which is a college town).  He and I had been talking about life, and sharing anecdotes.  The bus which upon which we were traveling was forced to stop due to an ice storm leaving 3 inches of ice on interstate 80.  The truck stop at which we were parked was one (1) exit away from the man's destination.  So, he got off the bus and went inside "The World's Largest Truckstop."  I followed, but did not tag along with him, as he was about his business, and I had nothing to do but listen to my discman, and about three hundred albums of music which I had brought with me.  I hit the head, and come out of the lavatory only to see my new acquaintence being forcibly removed  by security personell in the employ of "The Worlds Largest Truckstop."

So I asked the manager what the deal was with them forcibly removing my friendly acquaintence.  They said he was soliciting.  Now I held my piece, and did a little survey of the area.  There were at least 750 people in the truck stop, and I only saw a handful of people with dark complexions in the joint.  I did however see many pale people soliciting, or trying to solicit rides to the next town, as my friend had been doing.

I then spoke to my friend (the black guy with dreads) about what had happened.  He said that he was asking for a ride to Iowa City (5 miles away), and that the security personell didn't like what he was doing.

I spoke to a manager of the place.  I stated that there was at least 50 people that were not black doing the same thing and were not being forcibly removed from the premises.  The manager then said he was asking people to borrow their fingernail clippers.  I then reported to the manager that my friend told me that he was only asking for a ride to the next town, just like all the other beggars in that place.  I then started to explain my friend's plight to the people in the building, and was pretty quickly removed from the interior of the truck stop myself, even though I was not really soliciting, so much as explaining to people that the management team was comprised of a bunch of racist biggots.

I then started an impromptu boycott of the truckstop, explaining my dealings with the management, but this was not very sucessful, as most people don't travel as I do, with a backpack full of non-perishables, and copious amounts of water.  My foodstuffs served me well, as most people on that bus spent their money of malt liquor (Old English 800, and Colt .45) and crack cocaine, which they spent the next day and half consuming aboard the greyhound bus, which was left unattended with the passengers aboard.

After a day and a half aboard the bust, we then travelled to Des Moines, and were waylaid by another ice storm, and sat for another 24 hour period.  This time the local salvation army came and served breakfast, which was really nice of them and all, since most of my fellows were hung over and dead broke.  I was pretty happy, and had no need of their charity, but helped to get the food to those that needed it.

That's all I guess of my story of Iowa.  After Des Moines, I traveled to Omaha, Nebraska, where an airline ticket awaited, purchase d by my future wife.  I got off the bus, and never ever traveled willingly through Iowa, ever again.  The Dakota's are way better to travel through.

I guess Paul Krugman forgot how bad life was during WWII with all the rationing?
