No surprise. But this is an opportunity for free-market, voluntary systems to fill the niche, as Karen DeCoster has been showing on her blog (THANKS, FURB!). It is also an opportunity to show people that governments are just corporations that claim the legal right to use aggressive violence against people. As opposed to private businesses and most corporations, this kind of corporation doesn't offer services and products in return for voluntary payments. It threatens to use guns and violence against people if they don't pay. It throws people in jail and takes homes if they don't pay.

Remember those heady days of yor, when leftist democrats used to protest Presidents who attacked civil liberties?

CNS news does a great job on a number of fronts. In this article, the author actually takes a step that most of the pop media reporters wouldn't bother to do: she compares the total number of people on Federal Food Stamps to the govt-offered numbers on employment. The result is striking.

The deToqueville tipping point - at which the majority lives off the productive capacity of the minority - has ben reached. In fact, if one looks at the vast number of government employees and corporations getting govt contracts (on all levels of government), that tipping point was reached many years ago in the US.

Break away. Work any job you can. Hide your income. Do anything you can to keep the fruits of your labor.

Good for the NYT for covering this. Once in a while they get it right. As we've noted on the radio program and podcasts, the FISA court doesn't conform to the actual wording of the 4th Amendment. The amendment requires warrants issued publicly, by real judges, specifying the person and items to be searched.

We have long warned so-called "conservatives" that their zeal to close the borders would lead to a national ID which would be required to work.

The Senate bill (passed a few days ago) has this in it. The bill will likely not pass the House, but as long as the hardcore anti-immigration gangs in the GOP, and the union Democrats keep pushing for federal controls over immigration, this will be in the offing. It looks like such a system will be unavoidable in the next few years unless people who believe in freedom, free economics and the benefits of immigrants, and in the rules of the constitution (which doesn't allow the feds to be involved in immigration, only naturalization) don't win more to our side.

Two Congressmen have introduced "legislation" that they claim will put "reasonable" restrictions on the feds spying on Americans. Look at the language of the press release, especially where they say their bill would "restrict" the federal gubment's ability under the Patriot Act to collect information on Americans who aren't connected to an ongoing investigation.

Good for them. They've got the cash to back up their position in court.

Remember, the feds aren't supposed to have anything to do with immigration. The Constitution only gives them power over naturalization, not immigration. This is something we've tried to warn traditional conservatives about. We said that if they didn't stop pushing for more federal power to control immigration, they would usher in a national ID and forced checks on it.
