Tales from the Conspiracy

What are methods you all use for vetting info?

When debating, I usually use arguments from morallity instead of from effect.

Because of this, I don't usually have to worry about vetting info, just logic, but I found a fact that's too good to pass up.

I was thinking about how everything I see referencing tax rates always focus on income tax, ignoring all the sales, property, sin, and sundry other taxes. Being curious, I did some googling.

I found this http://goo.gl/fIUPtS which claims total tax rate is just shy of 60%

In support of the "pro-discrimination" law

Inexplicaby, Judge Andrew Napolitano came out against the Arizona law that would "permit" business owners to discriminate against homosexuals.  I haven't read the law but from what I understand, the law allows businesses to discriminate against homosexuals.  The problem with the law is that it does not go far enough.  While this shouldn't be news to libertarians, individuals should have the right to discriminate against anyone for any reason.  Conservatives threw in the towel a long time ago when they stopped objecting to "civil rights" laws based on race.  They didn't want to appear racist.  As Republicans, they also tried to pivot the issue by pointing out that Democrats opposed Civil Rights more than Republicans.

The FCC Plan To Police The Newsrooms

First Amendment: The FCC has cooked up a plan to place "researchers" in U.S. newsrooms, supposedly to learn all about how editorial decisions are made. Any questions as to why the U.S. is falling in the free press rankings?

As if illegal seizures of Associated Press phone records and the shadowy tailing of the mother of a Fox News reporter weren't menacing enough, the Obama administration is going out of its way to institute a new intrusive surveillance of the press, as if the press wasn't supine enough.

There are jobs out there, but they are not jobs that people can support a family and live off of. That is why people are struggling so much. It is not a secret that individuals have been having a very hard time for a while, and there are not enough great jobs accessible.

Problem with Site

Hi Gard,

I just signed up on the Forum yesterday. I was at work, and so was using Win 7 and IE.

I did OK as far as getting on and posting, but got the message that my password was temporary and would have to be changed.

I tried to do so, but only got a blank page in the center, below either tab of my account:

Electricity rates rely on more than fuel costs

Many people might have noticed that natural gas and other energy fuel costs have been trending down. They similarly may have realized that electricity charges, though, are up. It is because electricity prices are complicated and are set by numerous factors. Article source: Falling oil prices not affecting electricity rates

Drop in gas does not mean drop in electricity

Many people have noticed decreasing prices on things such as oil and gas. There has also been a 43 percent decrease in natural gas costs from last year, according to the Huffington Post. Natural gas costs have been declining for a while now.
