Items for Tues., 10-23: Microsoft Kneels to EU, EU Arrests UK Man for Music Piracy, Brushfires in CA and The Fed Link, Ron Paul

In addition to a chat with Congressman Ron Paul, Gardner Goldsmith may -- if he is extremely magnanimous -- discuss these events that are pertinent to those who support individual freedom.

First, the brushfires in CA, and their tie to the federal government. Wait 'till you hear the history of this, and the proposals to give federal money to help the victims.

Elton John Calls for Death of Internet, Even As He Licenses His Mind-Numbingly Boring Music to Be Sold Online

When was the last time you saw a court jester do a trick? Elton John seems to be very adept at playing the fool.

Or... Is he really playing? Here is the story, from the Sun Online:

_____

POP legend Sir Elton John wants the internet CLOSED DOWN.

Never one to keep his opinions to himself, the Rocket Man has waded into cyberspace with all guns blazing.

He claims it is destroying good music, saying: “The internet has stopped people from going out and being with each other, creating stuff.

“Instead they sit at home and make their own records, which is sometimes OK but it doesn’t bode well for long-term artistic vision.

Lobbying Over Upcoming Wireless Spectrum Auction by Feds -- Washington to Make Billions off Airwaves It Should Not Own

As Conspirators know, the federal "ownership" of the broadcast spectrum is not only economically unwise, it is patently unconstitutional. Yet the political manipulation of the system continues. Case in point: the upcoming January 2008 auction of wireless spectrum spaces for telecom carriers to utilize. Google wants a piece of the action, and may spend billions in the auction, where it will be up against AT&T and Verizon Wireless. If Google loses, it is arranging what it sees as a backup plan -- to get Congress to force the winner to carry competitors' services... Huh?

Yes. You got it. The Googlers want the winner to BE FORCED to carry the Google service.

Please Watch This Video.

It is one of the greatest ever made; perfect for the sentiment of Al Gore's upcoming Live Earth mess... PLEASE WATCH!

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - If you saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers whispering to Al Gore when they accepted their Grammy Award for best rock album in February, that's the moment they committed to playing Live Earth.

Gore said he met with band members for more than an hour before this year's televised awards show, trying to persuade them to perform at one of the concerts.

While receptive to the idea, they weren't sure they could fit the July 7 concert into their schedule, Gore said Friday.

Thanks, 'Free Talk Live'. Gard to Fill-in with Julia for Ian and Mark, Friday, Saturday

He will be on with Free Stater Julia beginning at 7pm and will welcome Sheldon Richman, of the Foundation for Economic Education, to talk about the Republican Debates, energy policy, and even the travesty of US participation in World War I!

Check it out, and feel free to call!

Congress May Lift Ban on Local Taxation of the Internet and Wireless Devices

Dispensing with the Constitutional questions arising from a federal ban on state and local internet taxation (see cases such as the NY "Miln" case from the 19th century for an example of the byzantine nature of some commerce issues), the Conspiracy needs to draw your attention to the simple economic threat of possible state and local taxation on the internet and wireless devices. In NH, we are no longer immune to big spenders in our state capital. Note this article from CNET for more information, and then tell your US reps and senators what you think!!

A Sirrius-XM Merger Crisis? The Federal Influence on Broadcasting Gets More Poisonous

As has been noted by many Conspirators, the rationale often offered by politicians to support their continued control of the airwaves is that the radio spectrum is a "limited resource". Of course, being limited does not mean it ought to be owned by the government. In fact, it means just the opposite. A "scarce" resource ought to be husbanded through the drives of the consumers in the market, not politically driven special interests and Congressmen. One could argue that TREES are, at any given time, a limited resource, because we could, potentially use them all up without enough to replace them. But, even if this were the case, it would not convince anyone that the federal government should regulate the content of books, newspapers and magazines.

COMING THURSDAY to AGAINST THE GRAIN! THE RUBBER CITY REBELS!

On Thursday, at 2:05 pm, join Gard as he speaks with non other than Rod Firestone, of the Rubber City Rebels! Their new song, "I Wanna Pierce My Brain" is well known to those discriminating audiophiles listening to satellite radio, and their tune "Child Eaters" is famous to fans of "Against the Grain" as the theme El G often uses to open debates about federal funding for fetal stem cell therapy.

For information about the Rubber City Rebels, go to their website, at www.Rubbercityrebels.com !

Many thanks to ROD!

The Growth of the Conspiracy

Over the past two weeks, members of the Conspiracy have waited patiently and have offered encouraging words for the expansion of the organization.

This week, another piece has been added. Our sound files/podcasts are ready for fast access on the site. Look now for the conversation between Gardner Goldsmith and ABC's John Stossell, coverage of the unacceptable NH Surpeme Court Ruling in the Londerry Education suit -- something that must be understood by NH citizens and those outside the state -- and information about the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Conspiracy Video -- DANKO JONES

Hailing from Toronto, the trio known as DANKO JONES are named after their lead singer/guitarist/writer DANKO JONES.

Stated as modestly as possible, it must be noted that every few years something happens in music to cause people to take notice. DANKO JONES is now that phenomenon. He combines sheer raw power with wit and musicianship to produce one of the most devastating garage punk/metal/groovey sounds one could ever hear.

Conspiracy Video -- The Psychedelic Furs

The seminal UK Post-Punk band, the Furs brought together the snideness of the punk era and the creativity of the psychedelic era.

Their first, eponymous, disc, was a breakthrough of multiple guitars, explosive saxophone, intelligent drums, and ingenius lyrics that shocked many music lovers. It raised the bar for the combination of dischord, speed, caustic lyrics, double meanings, pop culture references and attitude.

"Talk, Talk, Talk", the second disc to be created by the Furs, is rightly considered a masterpiece. The opening track on the UK version (which has now become the US reissue) is called "Dumbwaiters", and was once described by a reviewer as "defying description by the English language".

Conspiracy Video -- Goldfrapp

The UK's Alison Goldfrapp and her cohorts work under the title "Goldfrapp". They are relatively new masters at creating soundscapes through stunning vocals, electronics, percussion and strings.

Seeing Goldfrapp live is a rich, mezmerizing experience. We suggest you start with the first disc, "Felt Mountain", and experience the combination of orchestration and synth that has made Goldfrapp known around the world.

Conspiracy Video: WIRE

The members of WIRE are present on the web. For fast access to their video work, visit this link:

WIRE are four men from Great Britain, who, in the late 1970's took music in a totally different direction. With repeated iterations of intense sounds -- be they guitar chords, bass strikes, drum hits, or vocals -- WIRE defied observers to define them. WIRE defines itself.

Moving towards a more electronic sound in the late 1980's and early 1990's, the members of WIRE stunned many. They surprised even more when, in 2000, they returned from many solo projects and completed "READ AND BURN 01", and "READ BURN 02", two seminal EP CDs that heralded a new intensity and control that punk,post-punk,noise and metal had not seen.

The Beginning of The More Complex Liberty Conspiracy -- MUSIC VIDEO LINKS

A Statement from Number Six:

"As many conspirators know, freedom, and the free exchange of information, sans the fetters of government copyright and regulations, are growing by leaps and bounds online. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the music industry.

"Today, we begin a continuing series of updates with links to music videos and free songs, available from some of the best musicians in history. In short notice, all conspirators will be able to post their own links to not only music videos and MP3s, but also to news videos, both contemporary and historical.

"Our first offering is WIRE, posted on a separate page. Further links, from both the core CABAL of the Liberty Conspiracy and from all Conspirators, will soon appear through a separate tab on the site."

The Net Neutrality Issue in DC -- Keeping Government Out is How One Keeps it 'Neutral'

In response to a letter to the NH "Union Leader", Gardner Goldsmith took hold of the issue of Net Neutrality, and explained what neutrality really means.

Rock on with the downloads, cats.

Read the Details about the Internet, thanks to Senator Ted Stevens - 'R', Alaska -

Thanks to Number Two, the Conspiracy would like to offer for your perusal the comments of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, member of the Senate Commerce Committee (better known at the "Anti-commerce Committee"). As a member of the committee, Senator Stevens is charged (though not constitutionally) with regulating the nation to death.

This he does with aplomb and striking enthusiasm, despite his glaring lack of knowledge about the things he wants to regulate. Case in point, the internet. Ted and his pals in DC are looking into the interest of businesses to provide upgraded levels of internet service for added fees. Since Ted does not seem to believe that people can be free to use their money to get something better, because it might make others feel inadequate, he is against letting businesses offer things like faster service, video news, and music options for a bit more. Equality means the equal sharing of misery, not equal treatment under the law.
